Motivation for Trading Success

Whenever I am presenting live webinars or conducting Personal Mentoring I am often asked, “What is the biggest impediment to trading success?”  This is a good question and one I’ve given some close thought to because it’s commonly accepted throughout the trading industry that, whilst many are called, few are chosen.  In other words, there is a large drop off from those that set out on the journey of gaining financial independence via trading to those that actually make it a success.

But let me also add that there is a large drop off across many arenas of high pursuit whether that is in sport, academics, the performing arts, or in business.  It’s not the difficulty in learning how to trade that is the issue here, it is more the application of the individual to his or hers chosen field of endeavor that is the crux of the matter.

On further consideration I am drawn to the clients that come back to us after a period of trading inactivity and want to reactivate their learning.  When I look at their common experiences there are two key points that come to light:

Genuine Interruption

Often a person has a change of life’s circumstances that interrupt their trading journey.  The death of a close family member, a sudden change in their job security or any other genuine reasons that were largely beyond their control. This is life going on and we must all be prepared for unexpected change and have the wherewithal to deal with them.

Once things have settled down we see clients coming back to re-engage and continue with their education.

Perseverance, Persistence and Patience

Rome was not built in a day, there is no such thing as overnight success, talent is overrated, we make our own luck … you have heard it all before.  Unfortunately, these gems of wisdom are usually correct.

What it boils down to is a lack of motivation, a lack of readiness to do the hard yards, and a lack of patience to see the job done.

Yet is it such a long and arduous journey?  When I consider that the person who cuts my hair was in training for three years before they could be allowed to use a pair of scissors on me, that the plumber that repairs my leaking tap was in training for four years, that the pilot that flies my next flight might well have been in training for over five years, helps me put into perspective what the scope and extent of my trading journey could be.

Motivation drives us all, it’s held within us.  It’s this need to improve our situation, to rise up or overcome our limitations that give us the desire to carry on.  This is when Perseverance, Persistence and Patience become so important.  Without these attributes then the enthusiasm can dwindle and we loose sight of our targets.  It is at these times that clients tend to come back, with fresh determination and a newfound vigour for their journey.

Here at Trade with Precision we have a step-by-step range of education that takes a complete beginner and advances them, in logical way, through all the various levels of competency required to achieve financial freedom.
